Laura Pearson

My work begins by collecting photographs from my own direct experiences plus those of others.  Patterns within my sketches can grow from the imperfections of the snapshot- water stains, sunspots, fingerprints etc. Adding pattern and simplifying areas begins a detachment and distortion from the scene.  I’m not interested in the aims of the photo-realists; I’m not a slave to the original source but rather using snapshots in order to capture something else. Each piece is created with a controlled systematic approach. Traditional techniques of using line, form, composition and colour are used in a playful way, stopping the illusion but accentuating the surfaces and media.
